PROFILE
- the response.
- the response. is a new company and style of contemporary dance designed for a new generation of dancers, movement and audience members. Dedicated to pushing the physical and emotional boundaries of dance, the response. seeks to challenge its members with original creation and commissioned works. The inspiration for this company lies in the ability of the human body, its capacity, its physical potential and its emotional make-up. The main focus is to investigate the possibilities of fusing together the articulation and sophistication of contemporary technique with the athleticism, dynamics and energy of urban dance and culture. the response. is primarily a vehicle for the creation of new works by founder and Artistic Director, Amber Funk Barton. Starting as a non-ensemble company, the response. will work project-to-project, its members recurring, yet changing and appropriate to the current creation. That being said, the response. is a reaction...to the emotions we feel, to the music we listen to... to the world that surrounds us...

WorkSpace
November 25-28, 2009 l Shadbolt Theatre
Choreography and Direction by Amber Funk Barton
Space. Bodies. Music.
After the exciting debut of this new company in 2008, the response. returns to stimulate and entertain audiences with a truly unique performance experience.
WorkSpace is a window to see what is inspiring Amber Funk Barton these days as she continues to explore the possibilities of fusing together multiple dance forms and influences to create two new works for her company; a woman’s quartet and a duet for a man and a woman. A melting pot of ordinary and random ideas, WorkSpace is a chance to witness the evolution of the company’s repertoire in a fun and gutsy performance as two new works are woven together into one tapestry of movement. Favorite songs, insomnia, skirts and a wall are just some of the ingredients influencing Amber’s anticipated new work…
Presented December 3-6, 2008 by The Firehall Arts Centre's 2008/2009 Season.
Amber Funk Barton and The Response Dance Society gratefully awknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, The British Columbia Arts Council, The Firehall Arts Centre and the Holy Body Tattoo Emerging Arts Award.
